Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this engine take three ignition coils?

The EF is a three-cylinder engine, and this setup gives each cylinder its own coil. Replacing all three keeps the spark even instead of strong on one hole and weak on the next.

How often should ignition parts be replaced?

Spark plugs are due about every 30,000 km. The coils have no schedule of their own. Typical life is 130,000 to 190,000 km, or eight to twelve years, so check them whenever the plugs come out and replace any that run weak.

Do I need special tools to install this?

Ordinary hand tools handle it. Use a plug socket with the rubber insert so the porcelain survives, and put a little dielectric grease in each boot to keep water out.
