Meet Dale’s Custom Honda Acty Truck

Florida-based kei truck owner, Dale, has provided a behind-the-scenes look at his custom 1995 Honda Acty. Like most kei truck drivers, Dale has noticed the number of heads his vehicle turns, stating: “I get more looks in this [Acty] than in a Ferrari.”

After describing his Acty as “running like a charm,” Dale said: “Fun truck, we use it a lot. We have several boats here in Florida, and we use it [Acty] to throw things in the back to go to the boat in Delray Beach. A lot of people use golf carts. We use golf carts, too, but they don’t go as fast as the Acty.”

He added: “You don’t buy them [kei trucks] to go fast, although you feel like you’re going fast in these things. 50 mph feels like you’re going 80.”

Dale also owns a full-size Ford pickup with a black top and white body, and he’s redoing his Acty’s paint to match the Ford’s two-tone color scheme. This Acty already stands out with black-tinted windows contrasting with the stock white body, so adding a black top is bound to attract compliments. Dale joked that his Acty could probably fit in the bed of his Ford pickup.

A Closer Look at the Exterior of Dale’s Acty

In a guided tour, Dale highlighted his Acty’s wheel spacers, along with its 2-inch body lift kit. In the truck’s rear, you’ll find a pristine bed and a stainless steel WirusWin sports-type muffler, which Dale loves the sound of. A custom gas filler cap, new side mirrors, and Honda-branded mudflaps with white lettering complement these exterior upgrades.

An Acty interior optimizing form and function

Living in South Florida, Dale places beaded covers over his Acty’s plastic seats to keep the upholstery cool, but the truck also contains air conditioning. After lifting the covers, Dale said: “I learned from looking at the interior of the Acty — it’s a kind of redneck way to tell if it has been abused — I look at the original upholstery. If the driver’s seat is hammered, it kind of means the truck was heavily used for delivery and things like that.”

A black-stitched NRG Alcantara steering wheel with 25% thicker material and 50% enhanced welding is a focal point of this Acty’s interior. This cabin also features a sleek silver shift knob, cupholders, and sporty red Recaro seatbelt covers. Dale shared that his truck has about 48,000 kilometers on its odometer, or 24,854 miles.

Final thoughts

Dale’s Honda Acty is a prime example of how kei trucks, despite their small size, can make a large positive impact on day-to-day driving. Like most of his Florida neighbors, Dale also owns a golf cart, but his kei truck offers an ideal utility option between his large pickup and golf cart for activities like boating transport, and he says the Acty is plain fun on its own.
